How to Use Your Cooler

How to Use Your Medical Cooler Pouch

The Chiller Cooler Pouch uses evaporative cooling technology to regulate temperature effectively.

It consists of two parts:

  • The inner cooling wallet
  • The outer cover

Follow these simple steps to activate and use your cooling pouch:

1️⃣ Submerge the inner cooling wallet in cold water for 20–30 minutes to activate the crystals inside.

2️⃣ Gently massage the wallet to distribute the activated crystals evenly across all panels.

3️⃣ Towel dry the wallet and allow it to air dry for 5 minutes to remove excess water.

4️⃣ Insert the semi-dry wallet into the protective outer cover.

5️⃣ Pack your insulin pens, EpiPens, or other medications, and enjoy 45+ hours of stable cooling below 26C!

♻️ Reactivation for Continuous Cooling:

  • When the cooling effect starts to diminish (after approx. 45 hours), simply submerge the pouch in water again to reactivate.
  • For continuous use, reactivation only requires 2–4 minutes as the remaining gel retains some hydration.

How to Care for Your Chillers

Like a faithful friend, your medical cooling bags are there for you whenever you need them. With a little TLC, they can last a lifetime! Here's how to keep them in tip-top shape and benefit from years of temperature-controlled storage for your insulin, EpiPen, and medications.

🛠️ Maintenance Tips:

When not in use, make sure your cooling pouches are dry! Take out the inner cooling wallet and let it air dry until the crystals return to their original form. For a quicker dry, cozy it up near a warm spot like a radiator or sunny windowsill. Remember to shake it up now and then to ensure the crystals are evenly spread and ready for your next excursion.

🫧 Cleaning Instructions:

The outer protective wallet can be washed in warm water with a gentle detergent. But the inner cooling wallet requires more care. A spot treatment with a soft brush and non-bleach antibacterial spray will keep clean and ready for action!

Included with your Cooler

The Chiller cooler pouches consist of two parts:

  • 1 x outer cover

Got Questions About The Chiller? We've Got Answers.

How Long Do The Chillers Cooler Pouches Keep Medications Cool?

When activated as instructed, the Chillers Cooler Pouches keep your insulin or medication cool between 18–26°C for at least 45 hours — even in ambient temperatures as high as 38°C.

Can I Extend The Cooling Duration Of My Chillers Cooler Pouch?

Too easy — and that's one of the Chillers' biggest advantages. They're reusable indefinitely.

When the 45 hours are up — or as soon as you notice the gel starting to diminish and re-crystallise — simply submerge the inner wallet in water again for 2–4 minutes to reactivate it.

There's no limit to how many times you can reactivate it, meaning the Chillers Cooler Pouch can keep your medication cool for days, weeks, or even months of continuous use with nothing more than access to water. Dead simple.

How Do I Use The Chillers Cooler Pouches?

No stress — it couldn't be simpler.

Submerge the inner cooling wallet in cold water and leave to soak for 20–30 minutes. Gently manipulate the wallet to spread the crystals evenly across all panels. Pat dry with a towel, then leave to air dry for around 5 minutes so the crystals can soak up any remaining surface moisture.

Once semi-dry to the touch, pop the activated inner wallet back into its outer protective cover, add your medications, and you're good to go for up to 45 hours of temperature-controlled storage.

Do The Chillers Cooler Pouches Refrigerate Medications, Or Just Keep Them Cool?

The Chillers Cooler Pouches are built purely for heat protection — they'll keep your medications between 18–26°C, nothing colder.

They're not the right choice if your insulin or medications need proper fridge temperatures (2–8°C).

💡 If that's what you need, check out our range of mini fridges and refrigerated travel cases instead.

What Is Evaporative Cooling, And How Does It Keep My Medications Cool?

The Chillers Cooler Pouches use a clever two-part system:

  • an inner cooling wallet containing specially designed crystals;
  • and an outer protective cover.

When soaked in water, the crystals absorb the water and form a gel-like substance. As that moisture gradually evaporates, it naturally draws heat away from the surrounding environment — the same principle that makes sweat cool your body down on a hot day.

This controlled evaporation process keeps the interior of the pouch within the safe room-temperature range of 18–26°C for at least 45 hours, even in outside temperatures as high as 38°C — which means it's built to handle an Aussie summer without breaking a sweat.

How Do I Know The Crystals Are Still Active And Working?

Easy to tell by look and feel. When fully active, the crystals will have absorbed water, and the inner wallet feels soft, flexible, and gel-like — you'll be able to see and feel the gel spread evenly across the panels.

As the evaporation does its thing, the gel gradually decreases and the crystals start returning to their original dry, granular form.

Once you notice the wallet starting to firm up and the gel visibly diminishing, that's your cue to reactivate. A quick touch tells you everything — soft and pliable means it's still active; dry and grainy means it's time for a top-up.

Can I Use The Chillers Cooler Pouches Without A Freezer Or Electricity?

That's the beauty of them — all you need is water. No freezer, no power point, no USB cable, no power bank required.

That makes the Chillers Cooler Pouches perfect for situations where none of those are available: camping in the bush, hiking in a national park, a day at the beach, long road trips, school, or anywhere you're far from a power source.

As long as you can get hold of some water every 45 hours, your medication stays cool for as long as you need.

Which Chillers Cooler Pouch Size Is Right For Me?

The Chillers Cooler Pouches come in four sizes to match how many injection pens or devices you carry.

  • The Small Pouch (1 pen) is the most compact and perfect for those carrying a single insulin pen or EpiPen daily.
  • The Medium Pouch (1–2 pens) adds room for a second pen or small accessories.
  • The Big Pouch (1–3 pens) is well suited to those managing multiple medications at room temperature.
  • The Large Pouch (1–4 pens) is the biggest option.

🔍 Check the product images for the exact internal dimensions of each size to confirm your pens fit. Not sure? Get in touch with our support team for personalised advice.

Can I Use The Chillers Cooler Pouches For Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, And Other GLP-1 Injections?

Absolutely — the Chillers Cooler Pouches are great cooling solutions for GLP-1 medications.

Once opened, GLP-1 medications need to be kept cool at room temperature below 25–30°C depending on the brand, which is exactly what the Chillers Cooler Pouch does — even on the hottest Aussie days.

The Medium size fits 1–2 standard GLP-1 pens, and the Large fits up to 3–4 depending on pen format.

💡 For unopened GLP-1 pens that need to be kept at fridge temperature (2–8°C), you'll need one of our refrigerated travel cases instead.

Can I Use The Chillers Cooler Pouches For EpiPens?

Absolutely — and this is one of the use cases the Chillers Cooler Pouch is specifically designed for.

Epinephrine injections like EpiPens need to be kept within 20–25°C and should never be exposed to extreme heat or cold — a real concern during an Aussie summer. The Chillers Cooler Pouch keeps the internal temperature comfortably within that range, and its flat, lightweight design makes it easy to carry an EpiPen discreetly wherever you go — in a backpack, a school bag, a pocket, or a first aid kit.

What Medications Are Compatible With The Chillers Cooler Pouches?

Any medication that needs to be kept at room temperature below 26°C.

This includes open, in-use insulin pens and vials, GLP-1 injections (Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, Saxenda, Trulicity, and others) available in Australia, EpiPens and other epinephrine auto-injectors, glucagon emergency kits, biologic and autoimmune injections (Humira, Enbrel, Cosentyx, Dupixent, Kevzara, Taltz, and others), migraine injections (Aimovig, Emgality, Ajovy), growth hormone pens, multiple sclerosis injections, cholesterol injections, eye drops, and heaps more.

🔍 If your medication isn't listed, get in touch with our support team and we'll confirm compatibility for you.

Is The Chillers Cooler Pouch Suitable For Kids And Teens Managing Their Own Medication At School?

Absolutely — the Chillers Cooler Pouch is one of the most child-friendly medication coolers in the 4AllFamily range. No buttons, no cables, no settings, and no electricity needed.

Once activated by an adult at home, a child simply pops their medication inside and carries it through the day. The flat, slim pouch slips discreetly into a school bag, a backpack pocket, or a lunchbox without drawing any attention. Reactivating it only needs water, which a child or teenager can easily do on their own when needed — even at school or at sport.

Can I Fly With The Chillers Cooler Pouches? Can I Pack Them In My Carry-On?

No worries — the Chillers Cooler Pouches are fully approved for airport security — whether you're flying domestically around Australia or heading overseas.

The inner cooling wallet, once activated, contains a gel-like substance — just make sure it's semi-dry rather than dripping wet when you go through security, to keep things moving smoothly.

💡 Always carry your medications inside the pouch to show it's being used for medical purposes — this keeps security checks quick and hassle-free.
